Pasha Kambalov
Artistic Director
Pasha Kambalov graduated from the Vaganova Ballet Academy, directed by Konstantin Sergeyev, in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he studied under famed teacher V.S. Zimin. Following graduation, he danced with Donetsk Ballet in the Ukraine and the Komi Republic State Opera and Ballet in Russia, and toured extensively throughout the USSR, the United States and Europe. In the US, he danced with Russian Ballet Theatre under the direction of Honored Artist of the Russian Republic Lev Assouliak.
Mr. Kambalov is the founding Artistic Director of First State Ballet Theatre, Delaware’s professional ballet company. For over twenty years, Pasha has influenced the landscape of the arts in Delaware. Today, First State Ballet Theatre is widely recognized as Delaware’s gold standard in ballet education and performance.
Mr. Kambalov has coached and staged countless ballets from the classical repertoire, including full-length productions of The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Don Quixote, Coppélia and Swan Lake. He has commissioned works for FSBT from noted choreographers Viktor Plotnikov, Matthew Neenan, Caili Quan, and Zachary Kapeluck, among others.
Mr. Kambalov was awarded the 2005-06 Teacher Recognition Certificate from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. In the same year, he received the Wilmingtonian Award for outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Wilmington. He served as President of the Jury for the World Ballet Competition from 2016 to 2018. Mr. Kambalov is a sought-after guest teacher and a co-founder and faculty member of The School of First State Ballet Theatre.
