Rie Aoki was born and raised in Tochigi, Japan and began training at age six at Chiyo Ishihara Ballet School in her hometown. During her teenage years, she won second place at the Yokohama Ballet Competition, third place at Japan’s National Ballet Association (NBA) Ballet Competition, and was a finalist multiple times at The Japan Grand Prix and YAGP. Rie finalized her ballet training in Washington D.C., while on scholarship at the Kirov Ballet Academy under Ludmila Morkovina. After graduating, Rie danced with Milwaukee Ballet II and Columbia Classical Ballet before joining FSBT in 2013. Since joining FSBT, Rie has danced many principal and featured roles that showcase her wide range, from sassy and strong characters, to princesses, to comedic characters. Rie has served as a judge at the National Ballet Competition at The Grand Opera House, a scholarship class teacher at the Delaware Dance Festival, and performs frequently as a guest artist. Rie has been featured in Pointe magazine as a stylish ballerina, inPhiladelphiamagazine as one of 11 Fashion Creatives in Philly, and on Delaware Online, showcasing her love for ballet and for fashion styling.
